About us
The Organisatie Oude Muziek wants to keep the adventure of early music alive. An adventure that began with questions: what does the composer mean, what can we learn from the score, what does my instrument teach me? Questions that should still be asked today.
Therefore, research is at the core of everything we do, bringing an eager audience in touch with musicians led by curiosity. As a centre of knowledge, we take our responsibility when it comes to diversity and innovation. The Organisatie stands for our living, sounding heritage.
For over 30 years, the Organisatie Oude Muziek has been a trend-setter in the field of early music, presenting and stimulating new developments.
Premiered in 1982, the ten-day Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht has been the flagship production of the Organization, with over 110 concerts and related activities in the centre of Utrecht. Every year, a special series of over 60 free fringe concert, as well as various workshops and masterclasses open up the Festival to young talent from all over the globe.
In 1986, a national series of early music concerts was added to the roster, introducing the Festival's international quality to historic venues around the country. Over the last ten years, this network of concerts has expanded across borders thanks to four Belgian partners.
Finally, the illustrated Tijdschrift Oude Muziek, founded in 1986, offers background and interviews from across the early music scene.
